This week's Good Cycling Facility is the pedestrianised central core of the Dutch city of Zwolle.
Like most Dutch cities, the centre of Zwolle is either completely motor traffic free, or composed of access-only low traffic streets, and cycling is permitted in all these streets.
This is important because it allows access to destinations in the city centre, and very often journeys will take place across the city centre. Bans on cycling in pedestrianised streets and pedestrianised areas should for these reasons be carefully considered, and only employed when there is a safe, convenient and attractive route in parallel.
