This week's Good Cycling Facility is an example of the retention of physical protection during construction work on Cycle Superhighway 6 in London.
This section of Blackfriars Road has seen the loss of some footway and cycleway during the One Blackfriars project. However, careful use of the existing median between the cycleway and the road has ensured that comfort and safety for cycling is retained. The southbound section of CS6 (looking away from the camera) has been moved onto the median (the paving), with temporary asphalt ramps added, allowing smooth transitions. Interlocking blocks and wands maintain separation from the road, and also keep the two streams of cycle traffic separate.
Construction work doesn't mean cycling continuity and safety has to be sacrificed!
