This week's Good Facility is an example of a cycleway being diverted during roadworks.
Cycle Superhighway 3 runs alongside the River Thames in central London, and a section of it has been closed to accommodate construction of the Thames Tideway project. The closed section is in the left background of the photograph.
While construction is taking place, one of the on-carriageway motor vehicle lanes has been re-purposed for a diversion. The temporary cycleway is separated from the other motor vehicle lanes by a temporary kerb with wands built into it, providing a good degree of subjective safety.
Construction will occur on cycling infrastructure from time to time, and this is an excellent example of how route continuity and safety can be maintained.
