This very large roundabout in the outskirts of Nijmegen, dominated by motor traffic, is safe and easy for anyone cycling (or indeed on a mobility scooter) to negotiate, thanks to a wide, bi-directional cycleway with complete separation from motor traffic.
The crossings are separately signalised from motor traffic, and the two-way design of the cycleway allows the shortest possible route to be taken around the roundabout.
Perhaps roundabouts of this size should not be built in urban areas - a legacy of the 1960s - but safe and attractive cycling design can be incorporated around them.
