This week's Good Facility is an example of the importance of keeping walking and cycling separated. The photo shows a section of green space in the south west of Amsterdam, surrounding an artificial lake, the Sloterplas.
The path on the left goes close to the lake, and is for walking. The path on the right is a cycle route, that is entirely separate. There is no need for either mode to interfere with the other - they have different speeds and different requirements, so it is right that they should be kept apart.
In the foreground is a zebra crossing giving pedestrians priority across the cycle path. The path itself has its own dedicated street lighting.
