This week's Good Facility of the Week is the Dutch version of 'cycle proofing', on a grand scale - a bicycle (and pedestrian) underpass of a slip lane off the A12 motorway near the city of Gouda.
This path also passes under the motorway itself, in the background - the second tunnel. In all about 12 lanes of motor traffic are crossed here.
The slip lane is a relatively recent construction; but naturally enough, when large projects like this are undertaken cycling is built into the scheme from the outset. Although impressive, underpasses like this in the Netherlands are quite mundane - they just happen.
This motorway has crossing points like this at regular intervals, and bi-directional cycle paths on either side, meaning it is no obstacle to walking and cycling.
