Grade separation has a bad reputation in Britain, but it can be done well. Very well, as with this example in the Dutch city of Assen.
The bridge here carries Assen's ring road. The road has been raised up, on this bridge, allowing this direct cycle route to pass unhindered underneath, on the flat. No delays for people cycling, and no danger. A safe, convenient and easy way to cycle into the city centre.
You can read more about this infrastructure, and its creation, here.
