This week we are illustrating the principle of available right turns at larger junctions.
In the Netherlands making a right turn by bike (the equivalent of a left turn in the UK) is almost always available at signalised junctions, no matter what the signals are showing, because the routes for cycle traffic (as in this case) run outside the signalised part of the junction.
Turning right is simply and easy, and doesn't involve going anywhere near the the junction itself. You will never have to wait if you are turning right. This principle could easily be extended to the UK.
Pedestrians cross the cycle track on zebra crossings, again outside the signalised part of the junction.
