This week's Good Facility is an example of an integral element of good cycleway design - a forgiving kerb between footway and cycleway.
This low, angled kerb is 'crash proof' - unlike a vertical kerb, riding into (or across it) will not result in a fall, or crash. It also allows people to cycle right on the edge of the cycleway, maximising its effective width, unlike a cycleway with vertical kerbs, which has much less usable width.
