Good Cycling Facility of the Week: 15th December 2016

This week's Good Facility is a bi-directional cycleway along a main road in the Dutch city of Gouda.

The reason this cycleway is bi-directional is purely for the convenience of people cycling; although there is another cycleway on the other side of the road, for travelling towards the camera, that would involve crossing the road. Making the cycleway on this side bi-directional allows trips to be made without crossing the road twice - making getting to the new cinema complex in the photograph very easy indeed.

The cycleway is protected by a raised kerb strip, and also by parking bays. Trees have been planted within those parking bays to provide shelter.
