This week's Good Cycling Facility is a network of bi-directional cycleways completing bypassing a large roundabout on the outskirts of Utrecht - the 'Berekuil', or bearpit. The cycleways are grade-separated, meaning there is no contact with the (raised) roundabout at all - no danger from motor traffic, and no delay.
The cycleways connect Utrecht city centre with the university campus, as well as with towns and villages to the east of Utrecht. This roundabout also has grade-separation for buses (visible in the left of the photograph) - a bus route also runs directly under the roundabout, without being delayed by motor traffic.
You can read more about the history of this roundabout and its cycleways on the BicycleDutch blog.
