This week's Good Facility is Orford Road in the London borough of Waltham Forest.
Four years ago this street was a through-route for motor traffic, and the streetscape itself was dominated by parked motor vehicles. Now, as part of the borough's Mini Holland programme, the car parking has been removed, the footways have been significantly widened, trees have been planted, and access for all motor traffic is prohibited, except for the occasional small local bus.
The street is one-way for motor traffic, but cycling is allowed in both directions.
This is not merely a cycle scheme, but a scheme that has significantly improved the physical environment, while also delivering benefits for people cycling.
