The Scottish Government’s draft budget will be disastrous for cycling and walking, if they carry out their plans to cut cycling spending. Spokes in Edinburgh have done an excellent job of alerting their members to this (see here for details) but their members are mostly concentrated in Lothian and Edinburgh and pressure has to come on MSPs across the nation.
Please spread the word and do what you can to tell your MSP – whether constituency or regional – that funding for active travel has to be increased, not cheesepared away. Most parties – including the governing SNP – promised to increase spending on active and sustainable travel. And this is not about budget cuts either – funding for motorways and trunk roads is going up – by more than the ENTIRE BUDGET for cycling and walking. And this from a government that has pledged to see 10% of trips in Scotland by bike by 2020.
