It’s not just London – this Sunday, 50 cyclists of all ages will hit the streets of Glasgow as part of their ongoing campaign to see improved facilities for all. This ride, organised by the Glasgow Cycle Forum and Go Bike! will highlight ‘the good, the bad and the ugly’ of Glasgow’s cycling infrastructure.

When Danny of Cyclists in the City suggested riding the ten most dangerous junctions for cyclists in London, he was hoping that 40 or 50 riders might turn up. In the event, it was nearer to 10 times that number who rode through London’s streets with him to mark their anger at the way the safety of cyclists and pedestrians has been put second to the needs of free flowing traffic.

Boris Johnson thinks London’s junctions – including Elephant and Castle, where there have been 89 cyclist casualties in the last two years – are just ‘fine’, but we at the Cycling Embassy beg to disagree. London’s junctions, and streets, and cycle superhighways and paths, are poorly designed compromises where the cyclist – and the pedestrian – come last.

We are developing policies that we can ask politicians, councillors, parties and candidates to adopt. Policies which can be summed up in a memorable marketing piece but behind which there are very specific suggestions for solving problems, ready developed so their officers can’t get it wrong.

Thanks to everyone who took part in our Summer poster competition – whether through entering yourself, ranking the entrants, or simply spreading the news. We were astounded at the level and the quality of the entries we received, which far exceeded our expectations for a new organisation, doing these things for the first time.
Anyway, based on the rankings given by our members and visitors to our site, we now have a shortlist of finalists
