Cycling Embassy Welcomes Welsh Proposals for Safe Cycling Networks

 

Responding to the Welsh Assembly's consultation on the proposals to give Local Authorities a duty to create fully integrated walking and cycling networks, the Cycling Embassy of Great Britain has welcomed the proposal but warns that it must be adequately funded and that good design standards must be built in. At the moment enhanced networks are only 'subject to budget availability' which councils might see as a "get out of jail free" card. Similarly, we feel that the duty must be strongly enforced, and the resulting provision audited to maintain consistency and best practice - and not open to 'artistic interpretation' You can read our full response here
