Staging diagram

A staging diagram is a way of visually demonstrating the permitted phase movements in a series of stages, making up one complete cycle.

Staging Diagram

Arrows are used to indicate permitted movements; the T-bar markings are used to indicate when traffic or pedestrians are held.  In the above example from The Ranty Highwayman, in stage 1 and 2 two pairs of arms run together, while stage 3 has all arms held while pedestrians have an 'all green' stage. Pedestrian, cycle and motor traffic movements/phases can be coloured separately, for clarity.
